The Google survey conducted by YouGov in eleven Asian markets revealed that ninety-two percent of internet customers engage in less secure online activities. This survey aims to raise awareness about safer online behavior, particularly leading up to annual shopping events when online purchasing interest can surge by up to twenty percent, increasing the risk of scams.

According to the survey, there are three common less secure online behaviors among internet users:

1. Using the same password for multiple accounts: A significant number of respondents, seventy-nine percent in Indonesia, admitted to using the same password for more than one site. Forty percent did so out of fear of forgetting passwords, while thirty percent found it challenging.

2. Creating easily guessable passwords: Another less secure habit involves using easily guessable passwords, such as important dates, birthdays, family names, or postal codes. Nearly one in four respondents admitted to storing passwords in unencrypted notes on their phones.

3. Sharing passwords across different platforms: Internet users often share passwords with friends or family, especially for streaming platforms, food delivery services, and e-commerce sites. Additionally, 74 percent of respondents who shop for online savings books admitted to sharing passwords, increasing the risk of personal data breaches.

Google recommends the following tips to enhance online security:

- Create stronger passwords: Use complex combinations of letters, numbers, and symbols.

- Avoid using the same password for multiple services: Each service account should have a unique password.

- Consider using a password manager: This can help manage and create strong, unique passwords for each service.

- Enable two-step authentication: Add an extra layer of security to your accounts.

- Perform a Google security check: Regularly review and update security settings.

By adopting these practices, internet users can minimize the risk of personal data breaches and online fraud. The survey suggests that the increasing cases of personal data theft in Indonesia may be attributed to these unsafe online habits.
